This is a technique lifted entirely from the Business Model Generation book. I’ll use it in the blog to demonstrate some simple ways to quickly sketch out a high level enterprise architecture.
While it’s a really useful way of quickly understanding how a business is organised, it’s even more valuable when looking to innovate and create new business models.
I also find it appeals to everyone in an organisation as it is a) simple b) visual and c) fun to do with post-it notes. This version is from the iPad app, but my preference is to workshop it through with a multi-disciplinary team.
It’s also a great way of showing a client that you do actually understand – at a high level – how the business operates. Certainly beats siting in a room for three days trying to reverse engineer the corporate strategy!
